Cameron’s Statement [VIDEO] and Some Questions

March 26, 2012

Sometimes, quite randomly, the part of my brain that is still (and will probably always be) Lawyer, bursts into life. Have a look at this short, one-minute video of Cameron’s statement on the #CashForCameron affair. Does anything jump out at you?

So, here is what I would like to know.

1. Define “significant donors”.

2. Cameron states that he’s “known most of those attending for many years”. How about the rest?

3. Cameron states that “Peter Crudass has never recommended anyone to come to dinner” in his flat. But we know that Crudass was very new in his position. How about his predecessor?

4. How about venues other than his flat? Chequers? Maybe just a restaurant or the House of Commons…

But here is the one that really jumps out at me. DINNER. He mentions the word DINNER 7 (seven) times in 7 (seven) sentences. I encourage you to watch it again and see how the word is emphasised. I also note how this changes to ANY MEALS when talking about the future.

It is a fair assumption that the wording of this short statement will have been agonised over for many hours, by many people. We also know from the last time Cameron was forced to publish details of meetings, that Rupert Murdoch met with him over tea. If I were Ed Miliband, I would pay very, very close attention to whether this wording is replicated in Francis Maude’s statement to the House of Commons.

Is this DINNER significant DINNER? I don’t DINNER know. You must DINNER decide for yourselves DINNER. DINNER.

Is the alzheimers sign photoshopped or just unfortunate?

Sadly, it was real. Cameron hijacked a very important announcement on Dementia for his own little statement.

He really is such a grubby little toff isn’t he?

and of course there’s no such thing as a free lunch… I mean, dinner.

(I suspect the lumping in of ‘dinners in flat’ with post-election dinner may have been to blur the ‘most of those attending’ issue.)

drat, can’t upload this clip, but I trust your instinct. SO unprofessional of him to hijack an event , first sport relief, now Alzheimer’s.

Yep. I noticed how many dinners there were. Quite frankly I couldn’t give a flying fig who he has dinner with. But I do care about slimey scumbags buying favours. they are trying to trivialise the whole thing.

Yes, I think that the whole DINNER thing is a red herring. it is possible to wield great influence over prime ministers without consuming a single morsel.

It was fortunate for him that someone noticed that Crudeass had used that word.

Incidentally, apparently Evan Davis demolished Francis Maude on this subject this morning on the Today Programme.

Blimey – is it a case of the man protesteth too much? Next he’ll be saying he has never eaten dinner … I think we need to watch for signs of the odd sneaky under-cover full English in the local cafe ….

He uses both “Downing Street” and his “flat” during this. Is there significance in that as well? Downing Street – where? No. 10? No. 11? The corridor in between the two? The garden at the back? The cabinet meeting room?

He’s mixing up his private flat area and the government/public part of the buildings by the sound of it, and I don’t think it’s clear if his guests were entertained only in his private flat.

That’s because they weren’t. One of the dinners was during the renovations to his flat in July 2010 and it was in the main residence.

If he turns out to have “failed to recall” a meal with someone particularly important, this shot of him against the Alzheimer’s background will be pure gold. His advisers must have had their heads in their hands – a real Thick of It moment.

I believe there is some semantic difference between ‘dinner’ and ‘supper’, known only to those who know… Didn’t Maude say ‘supper’ on the Today show?

The joys of the class system . What millions (including me) call Dinner Cameron would call Lunch and what Cameron calls Dinner Maude calls Supper ! Is it just me who noticed that the pristine , airbrushed image has gone and looks increasingly like ‘Cameron of the fourth remove’ whose just been caught nicking fags from the prefects lockers.
